EOC WOMEN IN ADVERTISING

Women in advertising are quite the boring subject really. Even in my advertising class, we constantly are talking about gender. Other topics we have yet to cover to name a few are elderly people, children, foreign inhabitants of our country, students, teachers, musicians, etc. Usually, there are plenty of topics to discuss in regards to advertising, yet we always seem to be focusing on gender norms, degradation of women, etcetera.

Why are we (women) always a topic of discussion? I have yet to wrap my mind around why our lives and the way we live them are always every one else's concern. But as I tackled this assignment one sexist comment at a time, I will reel my somewhat feminist head and continue to talk about what is already a very dull and boring subject on my end.

What do you think of women in advertising? Do you think that the photo shopped images are realistic realities women can achieve? Or do you think that they are just another way to oppress and sustain our existence in this world? Whenever women are featured in any advertisement, they are sexualized, good for one thing, kind of ads. The Burger King ad above is the epitome of what we, as women, see on a day to day basis. Literally walking down the street (while being told to smile) minding our own business, the reality of what we should be is shoved down our throats (which I don't think many men could hold in their thoughts when reading that last line).

Pretty much, women in advertising is a mislead, totally bogus, manipulating, self-imploding work of the upper man. We aid in everyone else's lives and dreams as always and continue to support our own bodies being used for other peoples pleasure. We continue to supply garbage for young girls doing well in mathametics, science, etcetera, just make sure that they grow up to know that their bodies are  all they need to get what they want. They think what they want is what advertising has shown them such as lots of money (usually not even their own), big engagement rings, trips to cabo with their girlfriends, and a few unappreciative children.

Women in advertising is a joke. It is not realistic. And we all know this. Yet we keep coming back for seconds to feed our undying thirst for social media and crap that just doesn't matter. In a perfect world, women should refuse advertising gigs for ten years so that the world could experience true talent in advertsing, and not constantly using up every women that we have in order to sell pointless things.
